We're extremely chuffed to welcome two legends of British electronic music, Billy Nasty and Swayzak, to the intimate four walls of the Kraak Gallery in Manchester next month.
The gallery is located at 11 Stevenson Square (just off Oldham Street) on the alleyway behind the Hula Bar.

Billy Nasty
From early beginnings in London’s acid house scene to the huge global following he enjoys today, Billy’s continual hunger for new music, combined with his extensive experience, has made him one of the scene’s most enduring and in-demand figures. With dates across the globe, including a residency at BLOC festival and regular sets at Fabric, he also boasts an ever burgeoning production portfolio, recent highlights including the new Radio Nasty project alongside Radioactiveman and Two Lone Swordsmen's Keith Tenniswood, and work with Gregor Tresher for labels including Datapunk, Terminal-M, and Crosstown Rebel's Rebel 1.
Emerging from a background playing rare groove and funk, Billy’s first forays into house appeared during his residency at London’s The Brain Club, alongside Lost founder Steve Bicknell. Quickly making an impact, he was asked to contribute the first volume of the seminal ‘Journeys By DJs’ series – gaining him entry into the Guinness book of records for being the first DJ to produce a commercially available mix.
As the dance scene of the early 90s splintered into numerous subgenres, Billy’s profile sky-rocketed, resulting in regular slots at famed London clubs Final Frontier, Open All Hours, The Drum Club and Strutt.
Later he formed his own agency, Theremin, and was responsible in no small part for introducing the wider world to talents such as Adam Beyer, Marco Carola and Joel Mull. Meanwhile, his first label, Tortured, showed the development of his style into a slicker, purer form of techno, and quickly became one of the genre’s most influential and prominent imprints. This was followed in 2001 by Electrix, where Billy released more experimental techno and electro from artists including Umek, The Advent and Carl Finlow.
Now having decided to wind down his labels to concentrate on DJing and studio work, Billy has spent most of the 21st century doing the same as he always has – sourcing out the freshest, most innovative dancefloor sounds to spin, dropping everything from minimalism to dubstep, electro and classically-styled techno into his seamlessly-mixed style. Needless to say then, we're delighted to have him in Manchester...
Swayzak
David Brown and James Taylor began making music in 1993, and in those post-Iron Curtain times they took much inspiration from the dark and cold Eastern Block. The Swayzak name came later as much inspired by Eastern Europe as it was Hollywood, which is indicative of the wider 'Swayzak juxtaposition'.
Between then and now there has been quality release after quality release, from 1997's vinyl debut, “Bueno/Fukumachi”, and that first album in 1998, “Snowboarding in Argentina", to tracks on !K7, Minus, Pokerflat, Playhouse, Klang, Simple, Logisitc, Force Trax, Mille Plateaux and even Sony, not to mention that Fabric mix. Meanwhile live and DJ sets have seen them headline soundsystems everywhere from Glastonbury, Bennicasim, and Dour to Panorama Bar, Watergate, Rex, and Fabric.
2011 has been another significant year for Swayzak with their 240 Volts label relaunching, boasting a roster including artists such as Konrad Black and Prosumer. And, of course, in July Taylor announced he would be leaving, meaning Brown is now flying solo as DJ, producer, and A&R.
Needless to say then, this is a remarkable opportunity to catch one of the most revered artists in electronic music deliver what promises to be a very special set within the dark, intimate confines of the Kraak Gallery. An event not to be missed.
