^^^

a simple example of music in 4/4 time that doesnt conform to the 16/32 routine, and the basis of much modern western music would be 12 bar blues, but music from all of the world conforms to different structural approaches without doing anyone's heads in. indian musicians would probaly laugh at our lack of adventure.

the conformity of 16/32/64 is probably more prevalent in dance music than any other form of music, mainly because of drum machines / sequencers and DJs.

i liken that rigid framework to the equivalent of playing everything in Cmajor and never daring to risk anything other than a major triad chord.

but saying all this, because i have to work with electronic sequencers now instead of the flexibility of software sequencers, i'm finding i have to make more effort to make this structural syncopation happen, with software its easy.

machines just love the 16/32/64 approach.
