Carbon and even H2O is not unique to Earth.

Thats true but perhaps other galaxies have other elements that that sustain life in atmospheres that would be toxic to humans. These life forms may develope unimaginable features to cope with their
unimaginable environment

life on earth started in the sea. if this is needed for life to begin, then maybe aliens are more like fish and designed for swimming. they might not even be able to breath air.

those are only used while probing
