Can't remember who asked but there's a tendancy for old dub to use eminor.

Ronnie, you may be wasting your breath I fear, but you are spot on, I'm sure some folk would benifit from listening to what you are saying.

If any of you wanna hear more of that sound - check the above, there's a fresh mix with old and new, which covers a pretty big range of what constitutes original and expressive 'dub techno'.

There are also a few originals which are examples of what Ronnie is talking about put into practice.

From the hardware point of view - Leo is pretty on point, some lovely music, but I must stress, either way is valid, it's all in the way you apply the techniques that is important , not strictly the tools, I've made music like this for years, since before I knew who BC were and I've found that software is equally as effective when you know what you are doing, more so in fact as you can chop and change your effects chains a lot quicker and apart from that, If I wanted to make the chords I make with hardware, I'd have to spend several grand on equipment, which is not an option considering I can get the same sound with software, obviously If I had the money I would probably go down that route, but I'm a skint poor suffering artist, much like a lot of the original rudeboys who'd cobble together what they could to make their dubs, to hear people's attitude here in terms of needing state of the art stuff , they'd likely piss their pants laughing.

One tip I'd give other than what's been said before is that musical knowledge here is very useful, knowing what chords to use is paramount to getting a good sound, a big mistake people make when they try to make this sound is thinking they can just programme a synth patch to make the sound, you can experiment for hours with patches but If you aren't playing the right chords, you are never going to get this sound.

Of course you can get it eventually, but trust me - it's a much quicker process if you know which chords to play in the 1st place.

By that token - here is where the originality comes, many rock bands sound like many rock bands, many r+b bands sound like many r+b bands, in the old days (and more often than not now) singers were/are judged on their ability to mimic great artists from years gone by, it still doesn't stop people from making great music and it doesn't make rehashed ideas done with a slight twist bad, I mean if it was we'd still be driving round in Henry Ford's original wheels for fear of not updating the formula and to update any formula, you need to be familiar with the original material !

Besides, I think I'd have to be a bit scornful to the comments remarking on the originality factor here

1 it's not really relevant to the question asked
2, kick hi hat kick clap, low tom analogue squiggle, snap click, repeat x 10 then add stereo delay, adjust feedback, lower filter, and then go back to step one.

Is that considerably more original is it ?

There is a shop that just sells Dub and Reggae right next to my house now in Shepherds Bush. Picked up some nice bits in there yesterday.

Hey I posted up a tutorial for making dub tech stabs with massive here (search for my username) and also posted a link too a bank of patches for massive in dub techno style. Also just posted a handy reaktor efx that's great for dub techno - reverb, delay, flanged matrix.

I've searched for your user name but haven't found the Reaktor fx or the tutorial. I did buy your patches awhile back with that track. Good stuff. : )

When I have 5 I'll dig it out... It's basically a step by step how to recreate patch 1 in the bank of massive patches I did . The reaktor thing is on the front page of the production forum right now!
