I've never used these but have the cheaper akg 171's and I must say they are quite uncomfortable to wear for long periods. They clamp really tightly onto your head, on the flip side of this they do a good job of blocking out any outside noise.Daemonix wrote:AKG 240 mk2?

headphones....
opinions will differ even more about headphones than about monitors
I've had quite a few over the years, and I still have too many now.
I started out with a sennheiser HD590, and went through 2 pairs of those.
very nice cristal clear sound.
I'm presuming most of the new sennheisers in the higher price range should serve you fine.
but the two I use most nowadays are these :
grado labs SR325
I know these are Hi-Fi headphones, but they have an absolute superb sound without colouring too much. Headphones will never be monitors, so I was looking for detail, and that's what these excell at. very very bright clean sound, without being too much.
and though they look goofy, they are very well built.
open headphones too, which is always better for your ears.
and they give a nice "spacious" feeling too (panning, you know)
and hand-made by a small company that's been doing this exclusively for a few decades now.
no fuss put into anything but where it counts, I like that !
ultrasone pro 750
these are probably the closest thing to monitors I've ever heard.
I also like how they are very good for your ears by not inputting the sound so directly into your ears.
sound pressure is lower on these than on other headphones.
ear fatigue is almost none on these, and that doesn't happen a lot with closed headphones in my opinion.
the grado's give me more detail, but colour a bit more (although only a slightly bit).
the ultrasones are a bit more flat.
it just depends on what I want.
