Intel i5 processors

Im thinking about an upgrade to a multi core processor for my music pc.
So what do you say, are the i5 series good or should I just get dual core processor? My budget is around $200-$300.

don't forget about i7. the only diff between i5 and i7 is the socket.

I'm thinking of buying a new PC with i7 Processor (4 x 3,03 GHz) and 12 GB of RAM - maybe in summer when they aren't that expensive.

Thats the thing though, the i7's cost twice as much as the i5's. Perhaps I should wait too for the prices to drop.
12 gigs of ram sound like an orgasm to me

The i7s are coming along with hyperthreading, so you end up with 8 cores. That justifies the higher price tag with a reasonble performance boost!

Well, let's hope the Ableton guys will do a 64bit update soon.
