so if you know somewhere in the world someone plays your music and likes it, thats enough? if so you really should give your music for free so you would have more chances to reach people which like your music

of course i would think there are other reasons too like

you enjoy your music
your friends enjoy your music and give you credit for it
maybe the crowd give you some kind of credit if they like it
maybe you feel even better if you know, they know that you made this music

and if you think about all this other reasons, i think you wouldnt deduce to give your music away free to everyone.

so if i would produce a really good track, that i enjoy, my friends enjoy and maybe some people at a gig of mine enjoy.

what would i do with this track ...

put it on a online platform for 1,50

or

press 300 vinyls, give it to my best friends and the rest to some lucky ones at the shops ..

hmm ....

EDIT:
As if people don't rip records they have at home and play them out in the club on cd's....
really does that happen? i wouldnt do it .. why should someone? cause he wont carry the vinyls !? maybe befor some record is going bad .. but that cant be a lot ...

they usually press 1000 per release

surprised by this, thought oslo was the big beatport/well known label and LLFO was the opposite, this move puts them on the same level and for me i do not see the point in them having the 2 labels anymore? their musical output of late has been so similar!

lots of people do give there music away for free. but a lot of people don't take free music seriously even if it's better than most of the music on beatport.

I was a bit confused because Beatport have put approximately the same release dates that had the vinyls
Now they have changed it and all the ep's have 18/1/2009 as their release dates

Music for free ?

well i admire people who do it .

But generally if u invest time , work hard are creative , have technical knowledge are u going to give your work away ?

Isnt something you create worth money ?

I mean we pay for everything in this world and i believe good music
for the talent work time etc deserves to be payed

if u give ocasionall as marketing tool its one thing but giving it all away
seems... wierd

Marcel Dettmann does this, im sure many more pros do it too.

I do it , mainly as I have a lot of records that I like to have on my i-pod.
It's also not always that a party has 1210's now with basically all DJ's using mp3's the parties only have CDJ's.

yes i agree with everything your saying.

i give music away for several reasons

1) it feels good to give something to the community
2) it's good promotion
3) most people will download your tracks illegally anyway
4) it sets a higher standard. if label A is giving away good music and label B is selling poor or average music then label B is not worthy of a place on Beatport.
5) i hear stories of labels not paying the artist or what the artist gets may as well be nothing.

the idea of putting a price tag on music is pretty new in the grand scheme of things.

Its not a very honourable tradition anyway.
