Reverb by recording speakers in a big room

So, the idea is to record a synth, a pad sound for example, and play it in a big room with a natural reverb and record your speakers. The reason i'm wondering is because i can't seem to find any reverb that sound natural, and i think it could be a cool resampling effect and that the result may sound dirty and gritty, but it could might as well sound like sh!t, and hard to get a good volume and so on.

if your got access to a big room/hall and your got a couple of decent mics then go for it.

had a guy at school that talked about how he did this with his moog and thats what they used for reverbs in the 60s so go for it.

I'm sure there's a web service for this. You upload a sample and they record the reverb in a location of your choosing. They have some cool places, like a church, huge drain pipes etc. All done with top spec equipment of course. Sorry, I'm sh¡t with references, can't remember the name :oops:
