it all depends what you do. Artwork on sleeves, colors, remixes (and by whom),...
We only make 250 pieces of a release on vinyl, and break even is at 230 or something like that. We are not even too worried about it, if we come 'somewhere close' it's all good. We lose a lot of money every year with the label, but at least the music last longer then when we would've spent it on booze and drugs like I used to do
Anyway, vinyl these days is not about the sales numbers or what you are making of it, it's a sort of 'business card', it gives your label a bit more seriousness and makes you stand out from the million digital labels that are around. And it's freakishly more fun to have your brand new pressed vinyl in your hands after all the work it took.
In other words: it's all very subjective but isn't that what music is all about
