Umek 'Slap' Bass - how to?

Post by loopdon »

I would love top get some pointers on how this bass is made?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8hIWihMZ2c

I have looked at in a spectrogramm (made with audacity),
it looks like chords (?) immediately bending upwards. Or rather some kind of arpeggio?

This is the spectrogram picture taken from audacity:

Any additional pointers on the production are very welcome as well.

Thanks!

id probably go about it with a two-note pattern for the bass and gently tweaking the portamento on the synth, and sidechaining all of this to the kick

That's of course open to discussion. Been following him for a long time.
Tbh, there's lots of tracks on his label 1605 that i prefer to lots of his tracks. But i have also always rated his production from a purely technical standpoint.

when he jumped on the minimal bandwagon it all went wrong. Beyer and Carola have done alright for them selfs. ok non of them are as big as they were but Umek has had the biggest fall from the top to where he is now.
