Slow House

Post by tone-def »

I really enjoy listening to house which is around 100BPM but there isn't much of it about. are there any labels and artists that specialize in this kind of thing? you can find some on deep house EP's but i'd love to buy some records where those tracks are the main tracks on the EP.

yeah, i'm only interested in 105-110 range anymore. anything above is for drug addicts and perverts.

i would make a 1bpm exception for this oustanding mix.

http://sesiones.brokenloop.com/doozer/d ... 11bpms.mp3

lots of familiar artists on that who keep the numbers down.

Theo Parrish – That Day – Archive
Shawn Christopher – Welcome Home (Larry Levan Hidden Mix 2) – We-ze Records
Damon Lamar – Rising Sun – Tetrode Music
Kuniyuki – Flying Music (long version chapter 1 mix) – Mule Musiq
Jenifa Mayanja – Looking Ahead – Bu-Mako Recordings
Oasis – Nine-Teen – FXHE Records
Marcellus Pittman & Theo Parrish – Selector’s Theme – Sound Signature
Red & Core – Heritage (Nightmare On Acid Dub) – Ferriskpark
Macellus Pittman – Chicago Nights – Unirhythm
Theo Parrish – Dreamers Blues (in the thick mix) – Sound Signature
JBP – Amongstone – Soul Jazz Records
Reggie Dokes – Transformation – Deep Explorer Music

lol...i'm borrowing this one.
priceless.

ok....no disrespect to you Atheory, as i think you contribute much knowledge to the board and i have full respect, but:
i'm a bit put off by this trend of DJs who create a mix of a whole "genre", but end up playing 40%+ tracks by the same artist(s).
case in point, XDB's "beatdown" mix posted on RA within the last week.
almost every track is Omar-S, Theo, or 3 Chairs related.

funny how there's a name for this "new" "Slowhouse" movement, when these Theo records have been around for (sometimes) up to 12 years....and back then, we didn't have a name for it here.
"Beatdown" was what Mike Clark, Norm, Delano, and Eddie called themselves, and Theo/3 Chairs weren't directly a part of that crew.
in fact, no one wanted to hear these cuts back then--in Detroit--unless Theo was playing them himself.....except Theo played mostly Chicago House & Disco, with only 5% his own records.
kind of like he does now.
and all XDB does is mix his tracks together, and gets all this acclaim:
http://soundcloud.com/uzuri/xdb-beatdow-mixx
ridiculous, IMHO.
it's like if i came on the scene 7 years ago and put up a "minimal mix", except it was all Perlon tracks.

at least Atheory's mix only has four 3 Chairs tracks and one Omar-S, but still.....

@russell

yeah, with you on that one, its like an unwritten rule for dj sets, only one track per artist.

just to clear it up, its not my mix, its done by someone called dozzer or doozer or something. but i like the tracks on it cause they take full advantage of the tempo to sqeeze something out of the grooves that you dont get near with the 120 and up. lots of rolling loose beats, faintly jazzy, pretty emotional stuff overall.

most of the funkiest, sexiest records are low tempos. like slow jams. and who couldn't like a slow jam?
