mixing

where should i start if i want to learn how to mix? i know some very basic things(like what basic effects and tools do), but i want to learn how to really apply them.

ill say it simply....


put your kick anywhere between -6 and -9 db, then build up from there.

Theres a bunch of great litterature on this subject as well. If you really wan't to learn it I say read one of these books.

This is commonly referred to as gain structuring. For a real good read on this subject with lots of info try this:

Lots of stuff in there has been posted by a well known mastering engineer.
