I just finished a track and now i discovered that an old mike huckaby record used the same disco sample as i did..it's not really the same, but you can tell..
What is your opinion about this? I know he sampled it, so why shouldn't i do this as well...but it feels a bit weird.
The track is on my soundcloud called horn rescue
www.soundcloud.com/rik-woldring
and this is the huckaby track

some feedback on the track would be nice as well..i have the feeling something is missing..
thanks

^^Mike Huckaby has no say whether he can release this track or not. They both sampled the same record. The main issue that I see here is that you both used the sample as the MAIN source/hook/melody whatever you want to call it. The sample makes up the majority of the sound and feeling of both your tracks. You both essentially just laid drums on top and re-arranged. So in that essence, even tho the tracks are clearly different, there is an easy reference between both of them. People familiar with the Huckaby track would hear yours and say, “I’ve heard this before.”
That being said, I think you made a nice track out of it.
If I was in your shoes, I wouldn’t send this to any labels. But I would keep it in my bag to bust out at gigs.

+1 for building the secret weapon stache... pass to your friends too if they play the same music.jessejames wrote: If I was in your shoes, I wouldn’t send this to any labels. But I would keep it in my bag to bust out at gigs.
