Ableton and controller bundle

Post by Eah »

I'm working on a budget, and I was wondering which of these Live 8 bundles would be best for production and DJing.

I've used both. Both are pretty good midi controllers. I think the Oxy fits your criteria of being ok for both a little better, with the keys being a little easier to use for production. I think you could do prod fine with a TF, but that does depend on how experienced you are, and/or how percussive your music is. The TF will be better for purely DJing I think.

If I make dubstep as well as minimal, would that sway things more towards the trigger finger or the oxy?

Not really, keys will be easier to use to express musical ideas, pads can do this fine, but its more like playing drums, so its a little bit more abstract. I think the biggest difference will be pitch/modulation on the Oxy vs. the sliders on the TF. The are suited to different types of control. You can do the same things with them, its just about which is more comfortable to work with. In fact now that you mention dubstep, I'd say get the keys. You'll need the pitchbend.

Get the Keys but I would recoment the axiom instead, better build and it has 8 pads.

Also, get Live8 direct from Ableton atm and you get sample for free. Worth it.

Agreed... would stay away from radium and oxygen controllers... all poorly manufactured and garbage drivers. imo

So I found out that the APC40 comes with Ableton Lite or something. For the same price as a Trigger Finger, I can get the much more capable APC40. I know what I'm going to get for sure.
