I don't get why people complain when musicians want to expand their art to make it part of some bigger experience. If done right, it can really turn out to be something great and can completely open your mind to new perspectives.
...I don't complain. I just lose interest. Fast. Once gimmicks start to be introduced. It's the same with music, marketing or technology with me.

I prefer to be inspired by someone who keeps it real and expands their art through creativity and innovation. Gimmicks? No thanks.

yeah i like it too.

yeah cadenzas weird, some really interesting tracks, and barely any releases and then loads of releases at once. lots of labels lose any sense of identity after about then releases.

anyone heard the gavin herlihy track (cadenza 37), its kind of good but a bit over the top. its not the sort of record i'm usually interested in but i keep listening to it. i'd imagine in a club with a good sound system it would make most sense, haven't heard anyone play it out yet though.

this is the point of the conversation where I ask if there is a label or artist you guys don't hate on. All this talk of commercialism is highly laughable. Even Richie Hawtin's M-nus camp is still considered very niche amongst the general public. It's really easy to make Cadenza the latest scapegoat by ridiculing the Aether project. Slap the 'commercial' label on it and it's a done deal. This is all banter coming from a forum of people and an industry that survives due largely in part to commercialist websites like MySpace (owned by Fox) and festivals sponsored by various brands including Heineken. If you still want to say Cadenza went commercial, then you need to stop smoking joints and popping pills.

That being said, I actually like the productions of artists like LVD and Luciano quite a bit. BUT, I do feel this is another situation where it's too many cooks in the kitchen (case in point: Innervisions Orchestra Live).

  Minus suck... The only track I own on Minus was that Mathew Jonson 'decompresion' to which I prefered the otherside anyways. To even compare Minus and Cadenza is ridiculous... Yeah Cadenza havent been on form recently, but they have put out some really good music in the past and even if it's not to you're tastes its all well produced music, which works wonders in a club enviroment.

Luciano does a mean live set, so I recken this would be well worth going to see. His live at Globus mix is a belter, and when I see him at Fabric it was amazing.
hm.. ok i understand that normal dj gigs become boring for luciano.. but such experiments.. aether, cube or whatever.. they have such a commercial aftertaste.. it's just too sad seeing cadenza going that direction..
I wouldnt say its commercial at all. Commercial is chart based music, this is still the underground...

THe whole Luciano/Cadenza label is a marketing machine in itself. These people were unknown until recently (4-5 yrs? less?). They're only famous because theyre famous (if that makes sense). Not because theyre such great performers or Djs. They're blown up to be such great "gifts from god" to EDM by good marketing and spoonfeeding to newjacks and people that dont know any better. I've heard them play and "meh", nuthin special. They play their "hits" sprinkled with a new track here and there and do a lot of gay dancing behind the decks as well as chatting with their friends, texting, doing a bump here and there, etc... Djs that I like and respect put all their attention and go to work at the decks so to speak. They dont have time to chit chat. Jus my little chin stroke. For what its worth

Luciano is not the best, but Ricardo and Loco Dice are really good dj's and deserve the respect. Ricardo IMO is on another level... He really knows how to program a set...

But I'm kinda comparing them to the 90's players. Guys like Derrick May, Mills, Jay Denham, Mike Dearborn, Hood, T1000, Surgeon, Hawtin, I mean the list can go on...These guys went to work, constantly doing something, getting their own sound out of the records, u know what I mean.

I for one am getting tired of Argentinian and Chilean Native music mixed in with run of the mill tech-house.
