Steve Stock began his relationship with electronic music growing up around Detroit's East Side. His interest was first sparked in middle and high school when he was exposed to radio sets on Windsor's CJAM and Detroit's WDET. After a few years of becoming familiar with the history of techno and house music in the Midwest, at the age 21, Steve began djing at parties in and around Detroit. He then joined with Profound Sound Productions (PSP), lead by Daniel James, producing and djing events for over three years. His experience with PSP gave him the knowledge and understanding of what it means to be an artist in Detroit.

While still honing his craft, Steve has turned his focus toward music production; the result has been his role as a co-founder of dableeq records along with Ian Givens. Stock’s other projects include production and live performance duo Tool & Die, partnering again with Givens, producing a darker and more industrial sound inspired by abandoned buildings and desolate areas. Ian and Steve’s desire for the abstract have created a truly unique sound and direction.

With multiple releases slated for the future months, Steve Stock and dableeq represent a progression in Detroit music while still holding a firm grasp on the history and significance of art in the city.

Released: 23rd May 2009
