Novation Drum Station

Post by tone-def »

Has anyone used one? they're really cheap and i want to know if the sound quality is anywhere near as good as a real 909 or 808. I've just order a Vermona Drm 1 MkIII but just wondering if should get this too? maybe i've spent enough money on drum machines today :D

It does sound great. It's not spot on, of course. But once in a mix and processed, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. I've had 2 of them, and i really like them. Thinking about getting another one actually. For what you get, they're well worth it! Just make sure to get the V.2 or the D. Station versions. The first one with the yellow on it had problems.

The are very few menus in the Drum Station. Everything is on the front panel. Except for non important issues like distortion and front cutting the samples.

Is that machine sample based? I thought it was a drum synth.

It's a mixture of samples and analogue sound modeling.

Most older drum machines used 12 bit (or lower) samples for things like high hats or snares (depending on the machine). Thus it has continued all the way through the jomox gear. It's really the bass and toms that are synthesized most of the time using a sine generator.

And before you go spouting off. yes, I believe the vermona is all synthesized. using things like white noise to generate hats. I think...
