Last book I read was "We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin. It was the inspiration for Orwell's 1984. Definitely recommended.
I'm now reading "A confederation of dunces" by John kennedy Toole. It's a comedy, but at the same time with quite a social comment. (But still funny!!)

i´m kind of a book worm, so this would be my choice...
any isaac asimov book would do if you´re looking for some light-weight but amusing reading, specially the foundation series is great. some comic books would be nice in the same lane, most vertigo edits, most frank miller´s (specially watchmen, if anyone´s read it must agree this man has A vision...), neil gaiman, kurt busiek, etc....
when looking for heavier reading i would say foucault, bakunin, bourdie and passeron or even some freire...
also read lots of art and architecture magazines, on that hand i would recommend hausser, gombrich, honisch and feierabend, most taschen´s or koneman´s publications would also be a good choice.
and that´s pretty much what i like reading, book i´m reading now is H.H. Stuckenschmidt - XXth. century´s music.
zero.
