You could try burning some promo CD's with some nice artwork and sell them or give them way at parties. It might make more local people get involved. 8)

I find with net stuff you still need something physical to get people interested and to let them know it's something from their city. It could be something as simply as stickers.

Yes my friend we are already doing that, giving CD to local djs with artwork and also to the international dj´s that come to big clubs here! hehe
but thanks a lot for the ideas! ;)

Cheers!

I think its because most label forget that digital aint much different from vinyl.
most of the small new labels just releases any track that is OK because it doesnt cost as much to release as vinyl.
before digital the labels only released tracks that are worth releasing. so you went to the record shop and heard a few good vinyls of them, next time you see a release by them you will want to hear it, even if the seller that already knows you would tell you you wont like it. you would want to hear it because you liked their previous releases.
most of the new small labels (from my expirience) dont act the same way. they dont release only tracks that are worth the release. they just release anything that sound OK. if it sells, good. if not, they didnt loose much.
those labels that says 'fck u' actualy releasing what they think is good. regardless if it has a commercial sound or not. but it has too be a good track and not just ok.

We can also look at this from a producers point of view.
i already know i like Audio Damage plugins. everytime they release a plugin i know im going to check it as soon as i can.
on the other hand, if another developer that release many ok plugins and only has one or two plugins that i like. i wouldnt care as much if they release something and most of the times i wont even try it.

so i guess my recommandation is not to release anything you can. release less but that each one is something you think is really good.
if you dont do mix and mastering in commercial level, that will let you invest your money propely in those few tracks you will release.

It´s real most label release because it´s almost free, but in the other hand you have the fact that if you dont release and you are a new label thus your releases get to the bottom of beatport so no selling = not getting to the quarter so kicked out of beatport.
It´s hard we will love to make a release make the most of it but as a new label cannot afford that!, we do a lot of promotional stuff (not spam over myspace ) but it´s take time to be selective!.

Well, i still believe releasing only 'the best' music is better to do in the long term. yes, you might get to the bottom of beatport. but in time you will catch more and more ears as more and more will know you release only good music.
if you release everything that sounds ok. you wont catch any ears as all of the releases sounds like the other ones. so you still get to the bottom of beatport.
i know i wouldnt keep an eye on a label releases just because one or two good releases.

of course its easier for me to say looking from the side 8)

Cheers
