I see making music with sample loops is like what Collarge artists

do . ..news paper cuttings, images from magazines, photos

Taken out of context and reassembled to create something new.

Using a single note or drum hit is like using a single colour...sky blue

its just a colour its how you use it that matters

Synth preset ..using the colour from the paint tube ie Pantone Reflex Blue

We better stop buying remixes and supporting labels that have remixes on their releases because they are all a bucnch of talentless hacks.
That's what I was saying about not being a black and white issue. I could easily say:

'OH, I suppose you mean Eric Prydz is a GENIUS. I suppose you listen to Call On Me 24/7! Wait till I tell EVERYONE that you think Eric Prydz is gorgeous! You're really really gay!!!'

....But I'm sure you don't think Eric Prydz is a genius, so that argument is completely useless. It's like saying you feel a little bit bad for Palestinians and having someone scream 'JEW HATING HOLOCAUST DENIER!!' in your face :P

i dont think thats fair tony mate,
some people are questioning the ethics of stealing someone elses work thats all. surely its a question of degree and context.
theres a big difference beteween someone using an old funk loop as the basis of a tune and making some original music in another genre, and someone taking the core of a tune from his own genre without permission, and adding a couple of sounds and pretending that its his own creation.

i love music and i love music production, its all part of the same thing.
what i dont like is untalented people taking credit for something they had little part in.
i'm very supprised that any musician would feel any different.

to compare this to cooking

some of us like to grow our own vegetables and raise our own livestock

ie: creating patches and writing with those.

you know the full history of each tone in your song.

we are green and organic

some others like to use artificial / processed foods

ie: presets and premade loops

and others like to dumpster dive

ie: sampling obvious songs and not hiding your sources

remember even if you are dumpster diving from a 5 star restaurant

you are still digging in someone else's trash...

nice :D

but what about the home cooks that use vegetables not grown by them own but still manage to make something delicious out of it?
give their own twist to the recipe from the book, or just make their own recipe, with the ingredients they have.

not everybody is able to grow their own vegetables, maybe they just got in contact with cooking and first do it with pre grown vegetables.
so is buying a cucumber and cutting it to something different than the total stealing or cheating?
as long as you do your own thing with it i dont call it cheating or stealing

there's a different for me with people who really want to become a star cook and use other star cook ingredients to make their food yummy but didn't really gave their own twist to it, and people who cook for fun and eventually become star cooks, because they just have in them, even if they started with food bought in the local vegetable shop or supermarket

i dont have it for people who try to be something,
more for people who are something.

it's all about how you work with what you can get.

ciao!
Menno

i love to cook by the way :-flower

android, hope you understand my vision, i'm fully behind yours, but don't forget about the home cooks who just have to do it with what they have.
