I used to compose all my sounds by myself.
then I sampled myself and I discovered a very interesting "new" material: it's fascinating to see what can comes out of a sample!
then I started remixing other musicians and I just got crazy to work with a material I didn't create.
today the frontier between synthesis and sample based composition is getting everyday thinner. just look to the sample based synthesis instruments of reaktor... you can invent completely new sounds out of a single sample.
so using samples is not cheating, just reinventing. it's also recycling.
see what rappers have been able to do with all those old vinyls. these records would have been forgotten without them, they brought them back to a new life!
