Toys For Boys records presents the debut release from Cheptel, the new project from Belgium's Marcus Vector and Geoff Wichmann, with two thumping tech-house originals plus a remix from Lust Addict.
A1. Palmyre
B1. Inner Day
B2. Palmyre (Lust Addict remix)
Cheptel (French for "livestock") is name that Marcus Vector and Geoff Wichmann have given their new collaborative undertaking. Mr. Vector is perhaps best known from his work with ToysForBoys, and also for his recent EP on Contexterrior and TuningSpork, on top of his regular DJing in clubs throughout Europe. Geoff is half the duo Twins Connexion, also part of the ToysForBoys family, and with this common link, a studio partnership between the two was imminent.
The fruit of their efforts is decidedly different from their previous material: On "Palmyre", they set the tone with a dark, edgy beat, soon augmented with an unexpected female chorus, followed by some plucky guitar and hypnotic strings which answer the age-old question, "What if Ennio Morricone wrote the theme song for Knight Rider?" On the flip side, "Innerday" takes the EP into deep house territory, until halfway through when Marcus and Geoff summon the ghosts of dead disco, using subtle string hits to accent the liquidy groove.
Closing things out is Lust Addict's hypnotic reinterpretation of "Palmyre", increasing the chaos by a factor of ten.
