beside the ugly look, Devine Machine & Lucifer are great tools. Pluggos are real nice also (free ones & commercials), and have a look at all the different developers at smartelectronix ...and reaktor

Ableton Live all the way. It's all I use any more. Lately I have been really into using the dummy clips method, where you sequence the chain selector in an effects rack which contains multiple complex chains of effects. Live and its native plugins provide more sound mangling potential than I could hope to explore in a lifetime. Saves time searching around for unnecessary third party stuff.
