Once again, TuningSpork Records ventures away from its trademark funky
house in exchange for something a little more unexpected. Last summer,
the label issued "Free Your Mind" (TSEXTRA), a Baleraric groove crafted by
Jay Haze and Ricardo Villalobos. Now comes another non-sequitur:
"Comptine d'un autre été: l'après-midi” (TSULTRA), Mr. Tiersen’s piano
composition reconstructed for the dancefloor by Jay.

French composer Yann Tiersen has a minimalist approach that many
electronic producers could learn from. His piece (the title of which roughly
means “Nursery rhyme of another summer: the afternoon”) provides the
basis for this melancholy track. DJs addicted to hyperbolic effects plugins
might hesitate to play this – but those who appreciate subtlety will be
rewarded here. Tiersen’s original composition is tastefully manipulated into
a track that makes sense in a club context, yet sets itself apart from the
usual techno/house fare, providing a rare introspective moment on the
dancefloor.

And it might be worth mentioning: if you play this track and the floor
doesn’t fill up with ladies, then it probably means you’re DJing at a gay
club. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

This write up sounds so self defensive.. maybe its me?

I understand it as its better and different and if you are not down, you are the problem

Going with the sample, I'm not feeling this one. I do understand the approach jay took on this though. And I personally dont buy into the "you have to hear it in the club" argument.
i think you are reading too much into a write up!
music is always hard to describe, and i think our promo guy(joe) did a good job on the write up, you try writing these things over and over and over again. that gets boooooooring!
its fine that you don't buy in the argument of hearing it in the club.
but me personally, sometimes there are tracks i pass on buying and then when i hear them in the club, the environment they were meant to be heard in, my perspective changes. i was just suggesting to keep an open mind for that moment.

just to let you know, you cant put something up for creative commons "etc." if you don't own the rights to the material(or have explicit permission to do so).
it is in fact still stealing. on top of that, if i were you i probably wouldn't let people hear that version at all....
of course i was completely bullshitting and i more or less made a 3 minute parody of your upcoming remix and of course you some how missed the humour

I think that this track will probably do well in clubs, but to be true i really don't want any kind of remix of Yann Tiersen's beautiful original. You just can't touch some things i think. I think that the BPM that techno/minimal music requires doesn't fit with the feeling and how the original is played. I love Jay's productions, but i still think that this isn't the track for such a remix... Ofcourse it's an honour to do something for Tierssen, but still.... And by the way Jay, why did you leave the most beautiful part of the song out of the remix anyway (i mean the fast "refrain" like part wich comes back twice in the song)?

I heard this track in your live set in Barcelona during Sonar and it was amazing on a big soundsystem etc. The simple music are always most effective for me on the dancefloor. Great edit!
