searching for DEEP minimal mixes

Post by Ben Freeman »

Hey all,

I'm very new to the minimal sound, but I think I have always been a fan, I'm coming in from house and dubstep, and I am always attracted to the deep dubby side of things. So far the work I have found to digg the most is from the likes of Basic Channel, etc. and Richtie Hawtin's live sets ala 2000 era, the few times I saw him live blew my mind. MORE like this....

Obviously I don't know where to begin. I have been Dling a few mixes here and there, but not quite getting what I am seeking...

Anyone got mixes that you could recommend? Artists?

Thanks. ---

gillsans (the dj not the font) from canada (not russia) produced one of my favourite sets of alltime that falls within the bounds of taste that you describe. Grab it here, and consult the setlist for following up. (Note that it's a netlabel mix, so all tracks are cc licensed)

Wow thanks Ivar :)

Long time no see, hope all is well!

Ben, check out these mixes by Pablo Bolivar. Really deep, dubby and hypnotic mixes including some techno and ambient.

Enjoy!

Also check out http://www.silentseason.com or some of my older mixes: http://architexture.ca/_music/mixes.php

yeah, betoni was awesome. when burdock updated the site they nuked all the comments, which was sad because there was very kind and considered praise. (my mix is #49)

Still.. there are some other sites picking up where betoni left off.. I'm often fond of what's posted on mixotic and it really is a testament to the highquality netlabel scene surrounding good techno. (too bad about the heavy advertising though, the site looks ass without an adblocker)
