Ableton Live 7

Post by Jarno »

habitueE wrote:if you have no plans of moving to ableton/cubase/etc, reason 4 is a big improvement over 2.5 :)

I recently heard some very good stories about Ableton Live 7. Any experiences? I mainly want to produce (electro/idm) music, but in the future maybe I want to do live performances.

-Is Ableton easy to use?
-Has it got a quality sound?
-Is it a program for electro/idm music?
-Can I buy Ableton Live 7 LightEdition, or should I buy the full version?

Hopefully you people can help me out!

I enjoy 3.0 more so than 4.0.. (only played with it for 5 mins)

the same things can be done in 3.0 vs. 4.0.. with a little creativity.

but I found that it has a lot of things that I wouldn't use - lots of syn patch I wouldn't use as well..

lots of features to razzle and dazzle a consumer but your (sound) would sound very commercial and unoriginal..

- ableton is fairly straightforward. may be a slight learning curve from reason, but there are a ton of great tutorials and help files for the program, from beginning topics to more advanced ones.

- sound is good, "better" than reason... and you can use better sounding vst plugs for EQ, reverbs, synths, etc

- there is no program for electro/idm music. you can make basically any music on any of the DAWs available. although ableton is quite popular among that scene

- check out the comparisons between LE and the full version and decide for yourself. http://www.ableton.com/live-le-feature-comparison

I disagree. You get out of it what you put into it. That said, I wouldn't recommend relying on the factory sound bank.

reason 3 was great. when i bought 4, i've hardly seen myself use it. switched over to ableton instead and mainly use reason for some re-wiring. thats all.

i suggest you move on to ableton, lots more advantages. such as vst's, time-stretching etc. etc. the list is endless.

however, ableton + reason is a match made in heaven.

Have they improved the sound that much in version 7?

if your thinking of changing you might want to consider fruity loops.

version 7 definitely has an overall improvement in sound, im guessing they upgraded their sound engine or something.
