spectrum analyzer

Post by nospin »

i'm looking for some recommendations to try out, besides inspector.

this is the only one i've ever spent time with, but i'm not sure how accurate it is.

is it normal for a wide range of frequencies to appear, when looking at a single sine wave? do they all do this?

what features do you look for in a spectrum analyzer? any free ones do that job?

i use Pinguin analyzer.
its very expensive but also very accurate.
just note that its not a plugin but a standalone that needs signal in the input, so youll have to use it with another computer (i got them connected via SPDIF).

ok, so i'm giving this one a try, and it does a similar thing that inspector does... it curves up to the peak of a sine wave.... but it shows as low as 10 hz at -80db, and as high as 4720... the peak is around -30db at around 500hz...

is that range normal for a single sine wave?

....when i add a highpass filter to cut out everything below where the note hits, the low frequencies show up much on the spectrum... but when i add a lowpass filter above where the note hits, its shows some super low frequencies being added back??
