which one of you can really make enough money with his music?
who has his musical projects as his daytime job?
or is it a hard time we're living in and do you need a 'real' daytime job to finance all your projects?
e.g.
running a label
dj'ing
producing
organising events/parties
etc...
i'm interested...

Agreed, you shouldn't do any of those things if you start off with thinking about if you can live from the income from those jobs.thomasjaldemark wrote:i would say, forget it if you wanna have a high standard of living. if you can manage to live of less and do lots of work, maybe..Evad Streaklov wrote:which one of you can really make enough money with his music?

I'm about to take a job choosing music for fashion events, stores, television commercials, etc... matching a company's image and target market with a particular sound. It should be enough to pay the bills and a bit more, but I doubt much more than that. I would consider that a "real" daytime job, although it's not very traditional.
While I'll just be a worker, you could get a pretty good amount of money if you started this company yourself though.
I previously worked for a magazine, writing reviews, interviewing artists, going to events, taking pictures. Same sort of deal as far as pay.
The downside in both of these jobs is that you sometimes have to become an expert in lots of music genres that fucking suck. There are lots of politics involved in magazines too, like often not being allowed to write bad things about musicians who are complete jokes.

unless you are giggin all the time or get publishing for a major (which just isnt gonna happen for techno these days) then its generally not gonna happen, record sales of underground music wont support anyone.
only way to coin it is get somethin used on an advert or write some music for TV, or as some people do, childrens TV
either that or write some stuff that WILL interest majors, only if it just happens to though, and it comes from the soul, otherwise its just selling out i guess.
