Hi hi, im hoping for some recommendations on some really mind bending/psychedelic/trippy house/minimal/techno tracks. I used to be very into the psytrance scene but the music that comes out of it is very generic and far from psychedelic these days (with exception of course), and am finding some real magic in this scene.
I know the term is open to interpretation and ive seen forums get in to long debates over the meaning of the word 'psychedelic'... im just hoping for some examples of music you find really deep and psychedelic, whatever that word may mean to you....I find it hard to put in to words exactly what i mean, so here are some examples of tracks i have found so far (off the top of my head as i dont have my external with all my music plugged in right now, im sure im missing some gems):
* james holden - corduroy (would love to find more music like this as it really exemplifies the kind of music i am searching for, id be surprised if there was much around though)..lump also has a deep psychedelic vibe to it.
* alot of gary beck's music
* and audion's
* some Davis and May stuff is getting there
* mathew johnson - symphony for the apocolypse, and some of his other stuff
* ritchie hawtin - the tunnel (hypnotic/deep and spacey and trippy)..
* minilogue - inca (hypnotic.trippy.bent)(and their live sets are very psychedelic too)
* theres more im definitely forgetting..
would love to hear any recommendations (old or new) from you gus, ill try and add some more as i think of them
have a nice day
-Dan

some of my personal favourites (out of an ocean of great material), that I would consider 'essential' in this vein.
Pheek: De Begg Begg, Mandragore and Perce Neige
Villalobos: Achso EP, What's Wrong My Friends EP, The Au Harem D'Archimede
pretty much anything by Jesse Somfay
Steevio: Rogue Patterns series, Beyondness EP

Ø like robot criminal mentioned. Can't really help you with anything more as its not really my style and you already named the ones I like.
Maybe you could check out the dub techno thread as well. Nothing gets my brain floating higher than some maurizio

just curious...what kind of sound elements make you guys consider a track to be psychedelic or trippy?
if you're comparing to psytrance I think of weird sci-fi sounds, crazy stereo fx, bent pitches and the occassional weird soundbyte from a movie or something. along with a hypnotic frame that tweaks out at times.
for me, trippiest stuff lately is coming from pheek, ditch, maetrik, for netlabel most of the stuff on archipel, kreator, fragment....
also would like to know what psy you're into...
recently I'm digging stuff from ocelot, kindzadza, derango, blisorgon demorgorgon

Get everything you can find from Jesse Somfay. I've you're trained in psytrance going more to the minimal/techno stuff, that's definately the producer for you. There are some free netlabel releases of him on Archipel, you can check them out first.
this one for example.
this one for example.
