berwick st (and thereabouts)
sounds of the universe - this is run by soul jazz records (the label)
sister ray - good all round selection + good prices
reckless records - they have 2 branches on berwick st. one specialising in funk, soul, jazz, house etc and the other for more rock stuff
vinyl junkies - good selection of house, disco, funk, soul. a bit pricey
music & video exchange - stocks all kind of 2nd records. theres also a bargain basement downstairs
black market - the place for garage, dubstep, grime, dnb...so basically british 'urban' music. youngsta of fwd (where dubstep began) works here
uptown records - similar to black market
phonica - if minimal is what youre after, youll find it here. i actually think theyve gotten better recently and have a pretty decent all-round selection. they have a big counter with lots of decks so you can just hang in there and listen to records for as long as you want
there are other record stores scattered around london. obviously rough trade in notting hill/ladbroke grove (west london) and honest jons which is good for reggae and stuff like that. rough trade also recently opened a 'superstore' just off brick lane (east london) which mainly specialises in indie. they have a cafe, lots of sofas, free internet, and instore gigs (flying lotus and billy bragg are playing there this saturday)
hope that helps...

for clubs nights in early may...im a bit out of the loop as im not going out that much these days. i know jay haze, loco dice, andrew weatherall, hercules & love affair etc are playing fabric on the 3rd may. theo parrish has his monthly residency at plastic people that night, which is always good fun + a wicked soundsystem. i think dmz (THE big dubstep bash) is also on if you fancy a trip down to brixton. corsica studios often has some excellent nights on but not sure whats happening that weekend. theres always hundreds of smaller parties going on across the capital so youll just have to keep your eyes open for posters, flyers etc. (in phonica especially)
