what do they actually do and how much ?
some artists like Hell, Tiga, Ellen Allien, Miss Kittin ect use engineers or producers to help them express themself. the question is if the artist actually do something or not.
While on topic i dont think Villalobos or Trentemoller use engineers, do they ?

ellen alien is produced by smash tv. she comes up with ideas and sounds and tells him whats cool and what not.
phonique is produced by dub taylor aka tigerskin. i heard that phonique doesn even sits in the studio often and he gets the tracks delivered.
hell was produced in the early days by richard bartz. typical dj and producer combo cause hell doesn´t has a clue about studio stuff.
he is now produced by abe duque and some others i don´t remember right now...

In between Abe Duque and Richard Bartz it was Johannes Heil, and as with Phonique, rumours says that several of Hell's records was made by Heil himself without Hell beeing in the studio.deccard wrote:hell was produced in the early days by richard bartz. typical dj and producer combo cause hell doesn´t has a clue about studio stuff.

That kind of sucks I think, but as long as the artist is in the studio, I think it's fine, because they come up with the ideas, but might not be capable of using the software and so on.

an extract from an interview to Ricardo Villalobos
HRFQ : Can you tell us how that style came out? Do you use particular software to generate that sound like Reaktor or other plug ins?
Ricardo : I don't use so much software. I have like 50 little machines around and things and the machines have their own lives -- they are doing what they want. There's a combination of all the little loops, and machines is what I'm doing. And at the end, of course I use the software Logic and Ableton Live, for example to coordinate.
So that goes guessing that Villalobos doesn't use an engineer, right ?
