So the send knob would be the volume control for that send?

Or did you rout it from your pc to the mixer end back?

There are some uses for compression on sends. It's quite common, for instance, to put a compressor on a send then mix the heavily compressed signal back in with the uncompressed. Works well on drums. There's a name for this technique but I forget what it is.
