“Stuff” is the first comp from Zero G Sounds, and it captures this year’s label concepts of cheeky techno, detailed atmosphere, and purist minimalism.
Longtime friend Fred Giannelli performs the introduction with his Kooky Scientologist sermon “Demonetics.” This track was sent to Fred telepathically by L. Ron Hubbard through the energy channels of Tom Cruise, John Travolta, and Beck to deliver Maximum Dancefloor Scientology ™, which causes feverish shaking of the gluteus maximus.
Flip the disc and Smartypants will remind you what minimal really means when it’s done right. “Tore, Be Me Abstracter” is rife with skewed synth stabs and a stern-faced bass line, a mean groove that rolls your eyes into the back of your head while moving your feet. Finishing off side B is a perversion excursion by Eddie O. called “pr0nography.” Deep-end grooves and dirty samples set the scene for a futuristic minimalist porn set in your mind. This track is like mirrored sunglasses.
Digital bonus tracks come courtesy of Zero G stalwart Localfields, the newcomer Late Season, and drone gods The Fun Years.
