exactly this was my first thought even before I read your post. sad :(
this has already happened to many other musical styles, like for example bebop. in the 60', after this musical style (which was misunderstood and ignorated became the hype) you could even buy a "bebop kit", which also included a fake bart, sunglasses and other ridicoulus accessories (no vst plugins at this time...).
the same happens to clubs, when they become too popular they loose the initial spirit and become part of the mass...
and then it is time to find out something else...

it is what it is - its about the music - about the sound - not the genre..

the 'label' attached to the sound means nothing intrinsically.

the people who are experimenting will continue to experiment and will continue to progress... this is how minimal was 'born' and this is how many sounds are yet to come.

I geuss it all depends on how u use what u have and not what u have.
meaning, if u base your music on an instrument like this, most likely your music wont be original. but if you use it for certine things in your music, or just inspired by a sound or loop heard in the instrument that doesnt necceserly means your music will sound like someone elses music.

but i am a little suprised that THIS is sign for you that minimal and techno are no longer original. its been a while since i heard something realy orignal. we are already after the big minimal and techno hype IMO. producers are already looking for something new. i hear more and more tracks that have deep elements or real sounding percussions, things that arent typical for minimal, but yet arent new or never heard before.

Regards,
Stomper.
