Apple has two other portables lines that can handle the needs of folks around here. If you want a desktop replacement, buy a macbook pro.
The average mac user doesn't need the power of a desktop replacement portable. This unit fills in the hole that was missing in their product line.
Most people don't want computers, they want appliances. The first company that makes makes a box that does internet, plays media, and sends email without the hassle of owning a computer will make a fortune. Apple is doing everything they can to be this company and they are kicking ass at the moment because of that.

The MacBook Air isn't meant to compete with the standard MacBooks or the MacBook Pros. Totally different market and concept. It's meant to compete with the sub-notebooks that Sony and other companies make. Pure business class market, for people who don't need graphics or CPU-heavy machines because 99% of their work is typing in Word/Excel and writing emails.
This is like comparing a full blown Mac Pro G5 to an iMac. Just because they're both tabletop computers doesn't mean they're meant to compete in the same market.
