Anyone have some EQ or compressor plugin recommendations? Right now i can run as many as 8 EQs on a single sample and still want more. :p
For mastering?
Linear phase stuff ... PSP Neon is a great EQ and the waves linear phase multiband compressor is good as well.
Have fun

you can get the book by bob katZ_mastering audio_the art the science_
the reading is very enjoyable it also breaks some of the bulshit myths
Invest on some good speakers_and some sh!t speaker's
use the stereo in your car.
Set up 2 listening environements at home.
Give your self some time_its a long term leaning process.
get some coffee-and biscuits-
Get a nice set of head phones-eg senheizer hd 600-

A mixture of both should get you started
The more you do it the better you get at it_

the most confusing bit is the variety of opinions- :D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_phase
combats frequency/harmonic distortion in EQ'ing
Essentially it's more transparent, less obvious and lets you really narrow down offending frequencies

probably not much use outside of mastering or whole track EQ'ing

Yes.. This is what is very important to me. Breaking apart offending frequencies is probably what i spend alot of time on seeing as i do alot of sample mashing to get the sounds i want. On top of that i definately need something to warm up the sound after i've spent a day EQing and filtering the bajesus out of a sound, hence the inquiry about compressors.

As ANdi Vax says in his nice video, forget about mastering, just try to make a proper mix and good EQs, that'll be enough ...
