ABOUT.

What is Soul Phønic?

Not just another vs or back to back dj-act, Soul Phønic is a musical story which began several years ago, a passion of two eager artists with a history playing in clubs and events all over Belgium and beyond during the nineties.

The idea of Soul Phønic is to combine two different musical approaches into one sound system. Instead of battling, they bring an intensive cooperation, 4 hands, 3 decks, 2 minds, one DJ, that’s what Soul Phønic is all about: taking dj-ing up to a new level: always busy, always on the move, seeking for new ways to play and modify these funky and mind blowing rhythms. A set-up of one mixer, three decks and all this combined with a semi-live act resulting in a musical approach without boundaries. Switching over between house & techno they bring a solid combination of futuristic and minimalistic vibes always with a deep and funky touch.

The semi-live consists out of two main parts, the first part is to bring MIDI sequencing by moderating the shape of tracks or loops. This kind of Real-Time sequencing gives them the opportunity to give tracks that little extra where needed. The second main part is the extension of tracks by adding new sounds and wave textures with the help of several outboard gear.

The meaning of all this is to create a unique sound and vibe in a Soul Phønic dj-performance.

HISTORY.

The concept got birth several months ago when Ben Milo & Quincy performed for the first time a duo-set at an exclusive underground night in Belgium. Because the reviews where very positive and both had a really good time behind the decks, they decided this was going to be their new challenge!

However their background goes much further then these few months.
Ben got involved during the early nineties when famous Belgium clubs like Boccaccio and Fuse where creating a furore. At the age of 15 he managed playing at several raves with venues up to 2000 people! It was at that time that Ben mastered his mixing skills.
Many great party’s in Brussels had Ben listed in the line-up next to Dave Clark, Miss Djax, Dj Pierre, Stanny Franssen. Ben played on different radio and internet broadcasts as well as guest spots in clubs all over Belgium and Europe. One of the highlights being Lovebase, the biggest loveparade afterparty.

Quincy got his kick-off back in ’97 with several respected residencies and gigs all over Belgium. Not to forget his monthly performances together with Ben Milo at the legendary Boccaccio in Destelbergen where they both established a solid reputation as one of the main promoters of experimental and forward thinking music at that time. To satisfy his hunger and passion for music Quincy is nowadays responsible for Punk’id Records. An online record shop, wholesale company and label which gives him the chance to establish him as fulltime music promoter.
