It's time to celebrate the tenth release on Toys for Boys. For this special occasion, we're bringing you a very special record: Philippe Quenum's third TFB EP.

Like an Englishman in New York, but not so ignorant, Philippe Quenum is a Frenchman living in Switzerland. For most techno children he won't need any introduction. Phillippe has been active in the electronic music scene for more than a decade. First he emerged as Access 58 and released record after record and gained huge respect for himself in the late 90s.
Then in recent years Quenum has become a household name with releases on Trapez, Cadenza (label he started with Luciano), Num (his own label together with Lee Vandowsky), Soma, Pnuma, Alphahouse and Platzhirsch.

We've always loved his music and this release is no different. Since it's a special occasion, and our original plan to give a free slice of cake with every 12 proved difficult and messy, we've recruited Canadian artist Tractile (M_nus) for a remix here, which we believe is even better than cake. Yes that's right, even better than cake!

A: Secret Soul: Bass is the key here, as Quenum brings a slamming, almost ghetto style groove to the Toys for Boys tenth release party. Vocodered vocals permeate the deep dubbed out bassline, as things build to a crazy climax. Let's hope this one doesn't remain "secret" for long. With support from Haze and Luciano we seriously doubt it!

B: Secret Soul (Tractile Mix): We like Tractile's work on M_nus so far, even if it seems like "Tractile" is not actually a word at all. This mix takes a direct route towards chaos, removing the slow burn of the original and pitching things up a little, suddenly it feels like acid techno has returned. Just don't get lost in the silver box! We're not joking, some friends were never the same after that happened them back in '94.

That concludes the info sheet for this special celebratory 10th TFB release, Philippe Quenum's "Secret Soul EP". We hope you enjoy playing this one and that when you see the effect it has on your floors you will think of us and shed a little tear. Or if that's a little weird, just check the next TFB release instead.
