haha, i'm suddenly thinking of an ali g like scenario.... some douchebag screwing some white trash hooker while in some kind of senate or house of commons meeting about copyright reform speaking up while he's having his fun...dncn wrote:hehe. i cant take this seriously with that avatar pumping away on the right.sorgenkind wrote:i think that unless you are playing unpaid/illegaly downloaded tracks you can mash them up like you want, but it may be a bit of a grey area of the law.
Copyright laws needs an update anyway, things are changing

"...Michaelangelo is a PARTY DUDE.. *PAARTEEEEEEE!* "
as a producer, if you take my track and make a 8 bar loops out of it, and use it for your gig, and if this thing can make your ass shaking,
then it's like million thanks to you.
techno producers are not metallica. i don't think there will be lots of dumb asses who will agress you with 8 bar loops or entire song that you will tweak out on your gig. do what you want my friend.
by the way, let us hear of your set, it interests me a lot how you manipulate your loops and morphing the tracks in your own way.

music is the first.
play your beats well - if the music is right, noone will have a question. (or something like 'wow, how did you do that?')
[but. respect copyright as far as possible, maybe you should take a legal advice from a pro]

I'd be pretty skeptical about the originality of your sets if you do this as you've described... Also this definetly wouldn't be live + dj... more like dj. Or ableton dj for that means.
I think you'd need to do a hawtin setup if you want to get this one right...
While I do think it would be pretty cool... its more like Live Megamixing. haha funny name... And while it would probably sound pretty cool... but the only way your going to make it seem like these aren't your own tracks is to play them on the vinyl or some other turntable emulation gear.
so here is the breakdown:
dex = dj
dex + ableton = live + dj
ableton only playing a mix of others/yourselves music = live megadj
ableton only playing your original = live pa
this whole laptop microwave thing... so strange.

DJ'n is basically fancy juke boxing
over 10 years of dj'n the only place I've ever had to
record my playlist was on the radio (they pay a license fee)
never in a club environment, nor have I seen any club owner pay this.
generally this fee money never finds its way to underground artists.
where do I send public performance fee's for a white label?
now if traktor had a license/billing structure built into its software for micro payments to every artist I'd spin I'd agree if I recieved a micro payment for every drink sold at the bar while I'm DJ'n [not to mention a large portion of the door]
give credit where it is due, support artists when they are on tour.
