Microkorg XL and Ableton Live 8?

Post by loulou »

hey all

Ive been using ableton for years and i love it. But felt like i needed a hardware synth so got a microkorgg xl through a friend. So far ive figured out how to record into live from the Korg, but only with raw audio which means i cant edit that much. Is there a way, with midi or the USB-port) to record in midi notes and so on instead of just audio? How would you guys go about this?

Im sure this can be done

Thanks a lot!

hi,

if i understand you correctly you want to trigger notes and possibly send automation data from ableton to your korg. this is no problem. easiest is probably to use the "external instrument" function in ableton, set your audio-in channel to where your korg is routed and set midi out to your korg's midi-in. isnt there also a "softsynth-ish" editor bundled with the micro xl? this should also be possible to control via ableton then. better yet, check this one, from the title at least it should give you some clues: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm7aQaEplpQ).

there are several ways to do so...

1. does you sound card have a midi option - Im guessing not?
2. old fashion way - using a hard ware midi sequencer..
3. simplified way : assuming your sound card doesn't have midi

usb to midi for example :
