Xone 62 update ?

Post by Evad » Sun Jan 20, 2013 2:03 pm

Hi folks, is it correct to say the Xone 62 received a little update?

Old: http://www.fullrange.nl/data/mediablock ... .rvf_2.jpg
New: http://www.allen-heath.com/Assets/Image ... ont_3Q.jpg

And I'm not talking about the color ... ;-)

Does anyone have experience with the 'newer' version?

I'm thinking of buying a new mixer. At the moment I have a Xone 42 but I'm in doubt between the Xone 92 and 62 ... (I need minimum 4 channels).

Thank you!

It's cosmetic only as far as I know.

so you have the 42, why do you need the 62 or 92?

2 filter banks? 4 phono preamps, thats basically all the additional features i can remember..

Because my 42 has its best time behind him unfortunately.

yes but why the upgrade

a 92er costs nearly double as much than a 42er.

all you get is 2 more phono pre amps ( no one needs that really at home )
and an additionel filter bank.

i could understand if you go for a more expensive mixer from another company. but xone 42 -> 92 is wasting money in my opinion.
also the 42 -> 62 feels useless .. who needs two additionel mic channels at home ..
if you have money to spend i would change to another sort of mixer, but for home use there is no better product from xone than the 42er, if you play cd and vinyl.

its not just cosmetic. the old ones were hand made in a factory, the new ones are all chinese parts made on an assembly line. i find the newer ones to sound a bit different and be a little less sturdy - most everyone i know says the same, too. i can't tell you a single person with the newer version that isn't missing at least one or two fader paddles and questions why the phono input is dramatically lower in gain than the line input.

Hm, good to know.
Because that's why I don't like my 42 too much - it's like I'm holding something really fragile. A couple of times I had the fader in my hands, now my filters don't work anymore (not that I use them that much, but still, not cool).

Anyway, best mixer I've ever worked with was this one: FF-6000
The only pricing I find on the FF-6000 is 1800 £ which is +/- 2145 € and that's a liiiiittle bit too much.

Pioneer, I don't like it.
Rodec, nope, don't like how the fader works.
Ecler, maybe ...

its hard to find a good mixer that suits all your needs.

rodec? you dont like how the fader works or you dont like the fader cap? if you dont like how it works, what exactly ? the fader curve?

if you buy a good mixer you can modify most of that stuff, for example change fader caps or faders, or modify the fader curve.

so dont dismiss a mixer cause of a minor detail, it probably can be changed easy.
