W+P by Sammy Goossens. Additional engineering by Grinser.

Actively producing since the mid-90s, Sierra Sam is dropping his first solo EP of 2009. But don't let that fool you -- he's already had a busy year so far! He released an EP with Marcus Vector on their own label Toys For Boys, he co-produced the debut album from Bloody Mary on Contexterrior and he brought his live set to some of the world’s top clubs like Fabric and Watergate. Monika Kruse also invited him to remix one of her tracks, set for release this September on Terminal M.

His latest, The Swarm EP, shows his own spin on the TuningSpork house tradition. The title track features some freeform saxophone action courtesy of Domgué (from the Detroit Grand Pubahs), underscored by a buoyant groove and little-green-men vocals. Marcus Vector’s remix injects some extra melody into the mix and twists the sax line into a new context. TuningSpork is sensitive to those with saxophone allergies, so a sax-free version of Sam’s original is also included. Finally, the dubby “At the Gate” offers a scenic Tour De Troit, featuring subtle vocals by Alan D. Oldham AKA DJ T-1000 of the Underground Resistance family.
