Title: Rep EP

Format: 320MP3, WAV

Track Samples:
1. New Era
2. Stofwolk
3. Two Month Trip
4. Two Month Trip (Le K Cosma Remix)
5. Up the Pressure (So You Think You Can Rave Mix)

Earlier this year the sounds of a young Frank Haag came wafting our way through the portal between New Amsterdam and old Amsterdam. Upon reception and absorption, we were smitten with the audacity and psychotropic ingenuity on display in these early transmissions. After some careful selection we are proud to present, fresh from the digital ether, his debut release for Thema, Rep EP!

The appropriately-titled “New Era” kicks off the EP, building a haunting and expansive minor key meditation from layers of simple robotic refrain. The mood shifts a bit with “Stofwolk” when deep, booming bass takes over accompanied by a fractured merengue played on what sounds like a Rhodes piano made from sheet metal (this hasn’t been verified). Startling radio-drama instrumentation add to some confusing and lovely detours throughout. Dancefloor epic “Two Month Trip” follows with a 15-plus minute lesson in musical trans-mutation. Orchestras swell, bleating children are lulled to sleep by their mother’s crooning, pensive tickling of soft keys are all arrayed on a vast sound stage then rearranged by the one and only maestro Le K, returning to the Thema workshop with a dense funk-savvy remix. Closing things out is “Up The Pressure” which poses one very important and long forgotten question: you think you can rave? Well...not like, in the “Vick’s-huffing/glitter-make-up” sense, but in the “it’s-been-12-hours-since-i’ve-seen-solid-food-and-this-blown-out-speaker-is-the-best-thing-that’s-ever-happened-to-me” sense. You know: a truly epic freak-out—one that makes you rip off that Kafiyah scarf and those dumb sunglasses and scream until you’re too hoarse to complain about how dance music doesn’t make you feel like this anymore. Yes, we know. It’s been a while. Welcome home.

Cheers,
Thema Crew

No it was pushed back, next week if anything.

Thanks guys, yes Frank is a true expression of a diamond in the rough... a real talent! We are happy to have him on board, the response has been immense on his DJ Slip Remix and his first EP so far...
