What won’t shock you is the fact that Acid Squash is built around a deliciously warm bubbling acid line. What will impress you however is how that most long-standing of electronic hooks is masterfully woven in to a bumping, sleazed-up tech house groove with infectious dub bassline, perfectly measured layers of swinging beats and breathless vocal snippets. Very cool. Very large.
Never one to shy away from a bit of good old-fashioned acid, James Talk ups the ante with a pacey main-room mix. Seriously beefed up beats sit neatly beneath the dub-bass to provide a driving under current that leaves centre stage wide open for that acid line to be ripped to the hilt.
Alive Recordings favourites and dons of the Cologne scene, Lemon Popsicle round off the package with what we think is their best work to date. Mournful and moody, the mix weighs in at an epic nine minutes plus, spacing out the groove and utilizing the deep-down-dub bass to create a deeply hypnotic groove that comes to life on the business side of a gurn-inducing breakdown.
