Here’s the back-story. This EP was originally supposed to be called “Charger”, Josh was going to have a mullet, and there was going to be a Dodge Charger for the artwork, the classic Detroit muscle car, not the new suburbanized incarnation (get your mind right, yuppie!). As fate would have it, we couldn’t track down the Charger, but we did come across a picture of a friend’s dad’s muscle car from back in the day, appropriately named Night Fire. Just when you think it couldn’t get any sweeter, the custom paint job was done by a dude who was color-blind! That’s all irrelevant of course, and you don’t even know if we’re telling the truth.
The truth is that Dahlberg brings it full effect with this single. Deep bass, filtered percussion elements that seem to have a mind of their own, and relentless synth lines make this one of the most memorable cuts from Josh to date. Reporting for remix detail this time around is Kris Wadsworth - a familiar name in techno because of his Morris Audio EP released earlier this year. Kris brings his flare for dub techno to this one, making use of the space while keeping it interesting and soulful. Here is the true story. While Josh was playing a gig in NYC a girl proclaimed that she “wanted to rave out” and requested something be played to make her “loose her fucking marbles”, so Josh busted an edit of “Charger” and it became, Night Fire.
