We are very pleased to have Naw (aka Neil Wiernik) onboard for our third release! You may be familiar with Naw from his high-quality contributions to Clever Music v1 and music appearing on the Noisefactory and Piehead imprints. A veteran of live techno performance, each track has a distinctively fluid feel to its sequencing, utilizing gradual builds and subtle drops. Naw also makes effective use of the max/msp patch made famous by the likes of Sutekh and Twerk; reversing beats and generally mashing up drum patterns to create fresh sounding percussive tracks, dub-tech workouts and surreal space funk. Enjoy!

Easing gently into first gear, Naw flips the script with mesmerising dub techno rolling across a glitch infused percussive excursion. Featuring thick kicks, crackling drums and reverse slides synonymous with the max/msp patch, ‘Polopsy’ is a slice of mood music for the cerebrally inclined.

Take one slab of sleazy schizophrenic future funk, add about a pint of tightly whipped percussion, a dash of low-down funking bass and a gallon of swirling, stuttering, staccato stabs drenched in reverb oil, cook over a hot flame for 7.05 minutes and serve. ‘Twiezel’ ala Naw.

We have a theory here at Clever Music: all the best tunes sound like psychotic ice-cream vans, and ‘Paswippy’ is the Mr.Whippy of weird, bugging space jazz. Sinister melody drips lovingly over a thick dollop of funk atop a riotous trumpet encrusted analogue sugar cone with a chocolate techno flake and hundreds and thousands of clicking, popping sweet bits. Yummy.

Dream-like in execution, ‘Jhaida’ is trippy midnight music with a distinctly avant-garde approach to minimalism. Evocative pads combine with fantastically constructed drums which morph and reconstruct themselves in a perpetual flux that dazzles the listener while retaining a dance-floor dynamism that beggars belief.
