Reduced and methodical housey techno from this new anonymous project out of Portugal. In the same lineage as early Cabinet Records or Tobias Freund under his tobias. moniker, the duo apply the detail-oriented approach of a sound designer to classic dancefloor forms, each cut matching techno sensibilities with a levity that can only come from a love for the giants of 90s US house. Flat, impassive kicks get lifted by skippy hats and claps, dubby synth backdrops are punctured by dramatic stabs (note the Chez n Trent flashes on the B-side), and under it all roams an ever-restless (sub-)bass that reaches right into your guts. The name may be Routine; the effect is anything but.
