Spain’s Alex Under here delivering a hybrid version of rhythm and sound that is a moody mash up of jazzy yet experimental techno. His productions are based on deconstruction and variation with equal parts of humour and precision. ‘El Encuentro’ moves and weaves rhythm and percussion. ‘Fortuito’ is challenging as it is playful, starting off with scattered clicks grasping for the beat until the kick delivers, bringing the mood into gear with a simple loop melody and deep bassline. Not afraid to bring the beat, Under heads back to the floor for ‘Distantes’, which kicks it into gear from the start, working a minimal approach into maximized power. ‘Collage’ is the mixed beauty of a tough techno record complemented with elements of minimal purity – very good indeed.
