I just didn't enjoy that at all. The buildup was so freakin' long that I was expecting a real monster of a break to kick in and rip my speakers apart.. but it basically just continues as it was before...

Build is far too long, and the "break" is such an anti-climax. Really not for me.

This is a very stupid track. I got it a while back and didn't really like what I heard in my headphones. Now that it's released it caught my attention again so I had to try it out this weekend. I did some pretty cool things with this track and Perc's "Up" tool, it worked well in a set full of new techno and pitched down juke tracks... Anyway, when this dropped, it was the most euphoric crowd reaction I've seen this year.

Hi everyone

I just couldn't resist joining up here so I could chime in on the discussion, after reading the comment from gan_on.

First of all, thanks to everyone who enjoys and supports the release, really appreciated. :)

Now.. I'm the first to admit "Total Departure" isn't incredible art, and isn't the newest greatest idea - it's not supposed to be. It is ridiculous, totally effective, over the top party music, with it's feet firmly planted in techno ground but also accessible enough stylistically to cross over into other genres. No great artistic statements claimed by us, it's just supposed to be fun. We had no idea it would get hyped up the way it has, but I'm sure happy it's doing so well, it's our biggest track since "Move". (another crossover surprise for us..)

And about the video - call it "dumb and childish" if you want but as I mentioned on the YouTube page when I posted it, it "isn't really a full, finished music video, but just something I did for fun". I never tried the video features of Ableton Live before so I found a NASA video (which are copyright free...) and did some very basic editing in a couple of hours. Again, no great attempt at art, just enjoying the simple pleasure of doing something different.

So take it or leave it, that's fine of course - maybe just don't take it so seriously!

Oh one more thing - how did this end up getting posted on a "minimal" board anyway?

gan_on wrote:the last DC releases has been so utterly bad and uninspired compared to the back catalouge that i've completely given up hope for the label, and along comes Total Departure.. with complete lack of attitude and musical creativity.

we get the most basic of rythms, cheap "throw-your-hands-up-in-the-air" arrangements and even a video (!?)..a video so dumb and childish it challenges prydz "call on me" and if you actually like the video i'd reccomend buyi..errr downloading the complete work of Steven Seagal or the American Gladiators dvd box.

What we get musically in this release is the same basic wobbly rubber rythm we've been handed for the last year or so, slow building arrangements with rising one-tone synths building up to crescendo's. hihats carefully programmed on the 3,7,11 and 15 and a kick thatis so smooth and soft it should have a slogan.

there is nothing interesting about this. it's the emperor's new clothes people...and you're falling for it.

i'm very sad to hear drumcode and countless other labels take this path of commercialism and lazyness . straight up harmonic dancefloor tracks that leave nothing for the imagination and opens up the field for even more crap like this. what happened? where did it go wrong? these heroes of old who created such intelligent sound structures and rythm patterns in the past have reduced themselves to nothing but mediocre crowdpleasers.

put some fucking attitude and intelligence in the music, or did people loose both when they got their serato and their beatport account?

minimal effort, minimal soul and minimal value.
