DESCRIPTION by Dimension Sonica (español abajo):

CALIMA 003. ROEBIN OF FREITAS- The thing from Uranus. Calima, the youngest label of the Klitekture family, presents his third reference by Roebin de Freitas, coming from the city of Gante in Belgium, a corner of the world that is not known precisely to have a very prolífic electronic scene; nevertheless. it is in this type of places where more and more often we found great values in genres like techno. Without a doubt, the great creative work of Roebin makes him a great promise for European techno in next seasons.
"The thing from Uranus" is the release title for this Calima 003, an ep with five tracks plus en extra one given for free on the website, all of them are authentic pearls for intelligent dancefloor. Roebin gives clear samples of his good knowledge and approach to the groove, that type of groove that simultaneously is effective, risky and fresh, in other words, isolated of conventionalisms and with a very unique sonority.
"The thing from Uranus" it really seems to be something from some strange and mysterious place like Uranus since their rythmical structures are very unusual, inherited from techno and dub but Roebin gives his own touch to them with twisted beats , Martian sounds (or maybe uranos?) and a vertiginous intensity.
The exquisite dub basslines and the influence of the Detroit sound are the greatest sources that infleunce the Belgian producer, establishing a great correspondence among them and new forms to understand minimalism. The spirit of the motor city is seen in cuts like "Drip and bells" or "Antigua", always with an absolutely renewed vision. On the other hand, the track that gives title to this e.p. follows those premises but with a very hipnótica and mysterious cadence. Luis Ortiz is in charge to remix this "The thing from Uranus" where he extracts its substance and puts it under a process of disintegration that undresses of its enigma and its sensitivity to make a cut without compassion, sharp and very vicious.
As Culmination , for free download the track "I-bare-that-voodoo-that-you-do" is included;, cyclic and tremendously lysergic. Depth and nocturnity, tributes to oldschool techno and a vision of future defines this great debut of Roebin de Freitas for Calima.

indeed, good producer. And great production (again) from Sam. Hope you will release lots more stuff in the near future :)

Btw, Gent does not have a big electronic scene? Ahum... The Subs, Dr. Lectroluv, Soulwax, The Glimmers, NEWS, Music Man, Culture Club, Decadance, KozzMozz, I Love Techno, R&S, Frank De Wulf, etc etc... Don't diss the city ;)
